Proxmox VE Platform

Hypervisor Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) must be installed on x86 hardware that supports virtualization capabilities.
Virtualization Platform Veeam Backup for Proxmox VE supports Proxmox Virtual Environment version 8.2 (or later) installed using the official ISO image provided by Proxmox.

Veeam Agent for Linux supports consistent snapshot-based data backup for the following file systems:

  • BTRFS (for OSes that run Linux kernel 3.16 or later)
  • Ext 2/3/4
  • F2FS
  • FAT16
  • FAT32
  • HFS
  • HFS+
  • JFS
  • NTFS
  • ReiserFS
  • XFS

The supported file system (except for BTRFS) can reside on a simple volume or LVM2 volume; volumes protected with encryption software such as dm-crypt are supported. BTRFS is supported only if it resides directly on a physical device with no additional abstraction layers (such as LVM, software RAID, dm-crypt and so on) below or above it.

Other file systems, file systems that are not located on logical volumes, as well as network file systems like NFS or SMB shares can be backed up using the snapshot-less mode only. For details, see Snapshot-Less File-Level Backup.

  • Microsoft Windows OSes installed on ReFS boot partitions are not supported.
  • Windows Embedded / Windows IoT OSes are supported (except for custom builds by certain vendors that do not have components required for Veeam Agent operation).

Veeam Backup & Replication supports backup of the following Microsoft Exchange versions:

Microsoft SharePoint

 

Veeam Backup & Replication supports backup of the following versions of Microsoft SharePoint Server (virtualized either on VMware or Hyper-V platform):

  • Microsoft SharePoint Server Subscription Edition

  • Microsoft SharePoint 2016
  • Microsoft SharePoint 2013

All editions are supported (Subscription, Foundation, Standard, Enterprise).

Microsoft SQL Server

 

Veeam Backup & Replication supports backup of the following Microsoft SQL Server versions:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2022 (only for Windows)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2019 (only for Windows)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2017 (only for Windows)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 SP2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP3
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP4
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP4

All editions of Microsoft SQL Server except LocalDB are supported.

The database whose logs you want to back up must use the Full or Bulk-logged recovery model. In this case, all changes of the Microsoft SQL Server state will be written to transaction logs, and you will be able to replay transaction logs to restore the Microsoft SQL Server. You can use the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to switch to one of these models. For more information, see Microsoft Docs.

Restore of Microsoft SQL Server data may require an available staging Microsoft SQL Server. To learn how to configure this server, see the Configuring Staging SQL Server section of the Veeam Explorers User Guide.

Starting from version 12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131), Veeam Backup & Replication supports the backup of Linux-based VMs with several Oracle homes of different versions.

Oracle Database configuration

Consider the following:

  • Automatic Storage Management (ASM) is supported for Oracle 11g and later; requires ASMlib present.
  • Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) are not supported within the image-level backup functionality. Use Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN. For details, see the Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN section of the Veeam Plug-ins for Enterprise Applications User Guide.
  • Oracle Database Express Edition (XE) is supported for Windows-based machines only.
  • [For Microsoft Windows-based Oracle machines] Configurations with different versions of Oracle Database deployed on the same server are not supported.
  • To create Oracle database backups, all Oracle servers that use Data Guard must be added to the backup job.
  • You can use Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN to integrate RMAN with Veeam Backup & Replication repositories. For details, see the Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN section of the Veeam Plug-ins for Enterprise Applications User Guide.

PostgreSQL

 

Veeam Backup & Replication supports backup of the following PostgreSQL versions on Linux machines:

  • PostgreSQL 17
  • PostgreSQL 16
  • PostgreSQL 15
  • PostgreSQL 14
  • PostgreSQL 13
  • PostgreSQL 12

Veeam Backup & Replication does not support backup of PostgreSQL clusters.

MySQL (Veeam agent for Linux)

      • Veeam Agent for Linux supports processing of MySQL database systems version 5.7 – 9.0.
      • Configurations with multiple MySQL installations or instances on the same machine are not supported.

  • SAP HANA 2.0: SPS 02, SPS 03, SPS 04, SPS 05, SPS 06, SPS 07 (only with Backint version 1.0). Express Edition is not supported.
  • SAP HANA 1.0: SPS 12 and later.

Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN is supported for the following Unix versions:

  • Oracle Solaris 10, 11 (x86_64, SPARC)
  • IBM AIX 6.1, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3
Software [For Microsoft Windows computers] Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 is included in the Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN Redistributable. During the deployment process, Veeam Backup & Replication checks whether Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 is available on the target computer. If Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 is missing, Veeam Backup & Replication will install missing software automatically.
Oracle database Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN supports the following Oracle Database versions:

  • 11gR2
  • 12c
  • 18c
  • 19c
  • 21c: Standard and Enterprise Edition
  • 23c: Standard and Enterprise Edition

Notes:

  • Oracle Express Edition (XE) is not supported.

Microsoft SQL Server Database The following Microsoft SQL Server versions are supported:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2022
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2019
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2017
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 SP3

Notes:

  • To connect to the Microsoft SQL Server, Veeam Plug-in requires Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server versions 17 or 18. Other driver versions are not supported but can be present in the same system.

By default, Veeam Plug-in uses driver version 17. If driver version 17 is unavailable in the system, Veeam Plug-in automatically uses driver version 18. Optionally, you can manually set a preferred driver version in the veeam_config.xml file for cases when the default driver version is not suitable for your system.

  • Standard, Enterprise, Web, Developer editions of Microsoft SQL Server are supported.
  • Express edition of Microsoft SQL Server is not supported.
  • Windows Server Failover Clusters are supported, both with shared disks and Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV).
  • Always On Availability Groups, Always On Clusterless Availability Groups and Always On Failover Cluster Instances are supported.
  • Distributed Availability Groups are not supported.
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Veeam Plug-in Toolbar requires Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 20.x.

Note:

Remote connections from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio are not supported.

Veeam Plug-in for IBM Db2

IBM Db2 Veeam Plug-in supports the following configurations of IBM Db2:

  • Editions: Standard, Advanced

In case of HADR and failover clusters, Veeam Plug-in supports the following cluster management software: TSA, Pacemaker for Linux OSes, PowerHA for IBM AIX.
